This was great! I love the tips. I’ve been using either grain alcohol or 80 proof vodka for my tinctures (mainly because that’s what I had). Do you think 100 proof vodka is better?

Why, thank you! I totally get what you are saying, especially because alcohol is expensive. I used 100 proof vodka for a long time, and recently I was gifted the 80 proof vodka, so I've been using that. I think 80 proof is adequate in most cases, but it also depends on the herb being tinctured, as some herbs are more water-soluble, while others are more alcohol-soluble.

The more oily or resinous the plant, the higher the percentage of alcohol is needed (I know some herbalists who use Everclear for these types of herbs). But really, 100 proof alcohol is half water and half alcohol, so it's kind of the best of both worlds. If I had a choice, I would choose 100 proof, but I wouldn't go lower than 80 proof.
